For the love of Bali…

2014-05-13 12.42.48 There’s several trains of thought on where to go for a short holiday and I think it depends on the sort of mood that you’re in. A few weekends back, I was trying to decide whether I wanted to go somewhere new that I’d never been to before or somewhere familiar where I would just have a lazy weekend without feeling the pressure or need to explore any attractions because I had visited them all before. JojoGreenWall In the end, I decided to have one of those relaxing, restorative weekends to escape the constant rat-race where you’re more inclined to enjoy your beautiful hotel room and the in-house facilities rather than venturing out or traveling around too much. Don’t get me wrong. I love exploring and walking for hours on foot in newfound cities but I was in the mood to “do nothing” and not have any appointments. Cliffs copy 2 In light of this, I decided to visit Bali, a place that would always be very close to my heart because it’s where I stood a few years ago, in a tiny chapel, perched over the cliffs of Uluwatu and said “I do”. I have always loved this island and it has been a place that I have visited over the years just to recharge my batteries. sundown clifftop It’s also where I climbed breathtaking Mount Batur a few trips back where you set off at 4am in the dark of night, under a carpet of stars but in just two hours, you are greeted by the rising sun, once you reach the stunning peak. It’s an incredibly breathtaking sight to be hiking through nature and there’s something very empowering about climbing a mountain. It’s hard to describe it but it makes you feel like you can do anything! 2014-05-10 07.43.03 So, I was excited this time round to be checking into the beautiful Westin Bali in Nusa Dua, nestled on a white sandy beach on Bali’s Southern Coast and it felt like a quiet haven, and luxurious retreat getaway to just kick back and relax. The moment I arrived, I wanted to feel the sand beneath my bare feet and I sat on the beach having a quiet moment, just watching boats go by, and playing with sand, which always makes you feel like a kid again. _MG_9610 It was lovely to see so many smiling staff on my way to breakfast, from the cheerful security guards to the cleaners and chefs whipping up pancakes at breakfast. You could feel the warmth of authentic Balinese hospitality throughout the resort and it made everyone feel so welcome. _MG_9955 One of the first things I checked out was the yoga schedule of classes taught by a teacher all the way from Rishikesh in India, where I myself had just completed my yoga teacher-training course. I jumped right into his daily classes and my holiday weekend turned out to be so rejuvenating because I was up bright and early every morning to practice yoga on the sprawling grounds. Doing yoga immersed in nature is an incredibly therapeutic experience for the body and the mind. You can actually hear the sounds of ocean waves while being on the mat. It was such a lovely weekend break, and I enjoyed a wonderful massage at the Heavenly Spa by Westin, before I left the island. _MG_9765 You simply cannot come to Bali without having a massage. The Balinese are so famous for their legendary spa experiences and the Heavenly Spa’s attention to detail and comfort left me feeling utterly pampered. It’s truly got something for everyone! _MG_9652 For more travel and health tips on the go, do check out: _MG_9645
