Island of the Gods

When I arrived in Bali to shoot the first episode of my de-stress travelogue called ‘Letting Go’, the first unusual thing I noticed was the vast number of offerings that were placed on the pavement outside every shop and building on the island. Looking out the window of my airport van, I was moved by the sight of an old shopkeeper who was waving around a few sticks of incense before carefully placing her own offering at the entrance of her small shop. Every movement she made was with great care and respect, before disappearing into her little shop. Prayer …

Advice comes in strange forms

Some of the most profound advice we receive in life can come from total strangers that cross our paths at significant turning points in our lives. This can happen in the strangest, most unexpected of places. As it turns out, I learnt a great deal about love and determination from a busker on the street when I was a university student in Western Australia. Hence, when I was researching my chapter on ‘Relationships’ in my newly released book in the MPH Masterclass series entitled, “Jojo Struys’s Guide To Wellness”, I felt it was important to include this personal story, dating …

The Dangers of Rushing Through Life

I was at a launch event when I ran into a jet-setting industry friend who was posing for the cameras with her brilliant ‘silver screen’ smile and when a reporter asked her how her latest project was going, she enthused, “It’s been crazy! We’ve been shooting non-stop but I think it’s going to be a big success!” However, when her interview was done, she walked over to me, and that’s when I saw the faint shadows under her eyes that her concealer couldn’t hide and she looked too thin so I asked her if she was alright. She said simply, …

Are You A Praise Junkie?

Though we need to take responsibility for how we turn out as people, undoubtedly, our parents are usually the root cause of how we interact with the world, from a very early age. There was a girl in my school who nobody really liked because she was so full of herself. To protect her identity, let us just call her Lily. She had this disdainful air about her because things came too easily. I felt almost sorry for her because she was so spoilt as a child that nothing really excited her. Too much of a good thing, can be …

The making of “Letting Go Vol 2”

I just launched the second album of my Guided Relaxation CD "Letting Go Vol 2" for people who are stressed, overworked and wanting to be more mentally positive. BUT, this time round, there's a track dedicated to people suffering from insomnia as well! If you fall asleep while listening to it, please write and let me know. It will put a smile on my face! Actually, my sound engineer fell asleep while editing the track and didn't know where he was when he woke up to an empty office so he's given me his wholehearted stamp of approval for the …

The Legend of Lady Godiva

Last week, I found myself strolling through the old cobblestoned streets of Coventry, which turned out to be a very memorable stop on my short holiday in England. Old buildings and places immersed in history have a natural air of mystery about them. For one, they have stood the test of time and outlived any humans able to tell the tale of how life really was in centuries past. Therefore, we must rely on whatever evidence is left behind, from ancient carvings, paintings or fascinating stories that have been passed down over the generations. Coventry had an incredible tale of …
